The first thing we need to consider is where we want to install our pergola: whether it's in a private home, a commercial space, or a carport. Any of our Sunset pergolas could be a good option, but it's important to consider a few factors:
If it's for a private home, we must consider how much we'll use the space we've chosen to cover. If it's an elevated terrace, we know that the most important factor is solar radiation, so a bioclimatic pergola would be a perfect fit, as we can orient the slats at any time of day to maximize its use, both in summer and winter. On the other hand, if we're going to cover the entire terrace and it's the only outdoor option available in our home, a retractable bioclimatic pergola would allow us to enjoy the open sky whenever we want.
If it's for a ground-floor terrace or a porch, we'll have more options, as rotating slats may not be as important. If we want sun, we simply need to move to the area where the roof doesn't provide shade. We could also choose between a bioclimatic pergola, a retractable bioclimatic pergola, a paneled pergola, which also comes with the option of opening via remote control, or a solar pergola, which would also help us reduce electricity consumption in our homes.
Some of you may be thinking that solar pergolas are somewhat transparent and might not provide much protection from the sun, but I must point out that our solar pergolas have the option of adding a film along the bottom to make them opaque and prevent light from penetrating the covered area. We'll talk more about our solar pergolas another time.
If you're considering a pergola to cover your parking space, the most suitable option would be a paneled pergola, as they are completely watertight, with a structure that collects rainwater and drains it through the support poles. Solar pergolas are suitable for electric cars, as they could be used as a charging station for your vehicle, with an adapter for that purpose.
Finally, if you want to install a pergola for a commercial space, a bioclimatic pergola, a retractable bioclimatic pergola, or a retractable paneled pergola would undoubtedly be the best option, as you'll be able to give your customers more options to choose where to sit, whether sunny or shaded. Of all the alternatives for this purpose, in my opinion, the bioclimatic pergola would be the best option, as if you have more than one pergola module or panel, you can have one shaded area and another sunny area at the same time simply by rotating the slats independently on each module or panel. For this occasion, a rain sensor would also be very useful, as the slats would close automatically in case of rain, protecting your terrace and your guests.

Si es para una vivienda particular debemos de pensar en cuánto uso vamos a dar a ese espacio elegido para cubrir. Si es una terraza elevada, sabemos que el factor más importante es la radiación solar por lo que una pérgola bioclimática sería más que acertado, ya que podremos orientar las lamas a cualquier hora del día para darle un mayor uso, tanto en verano como en invierno. Por otro lado, si vamos a cubrir toda la terraza y es la única opción al aíre libre que disponemos en nuestra vivienda, una pérgola bioclimática retráctil nos permitiría disfrutar de un cielo abierto, siempre que quisiéramos.
Si es para una terraza en planta baja o un porche, tendremos más opciones ya que quizás no sea tan importante que las lamas roten, puesto que si queremos sol, bastaría con desplazarnos a la parte donde la cubierta no nos de sombra y también podríamos elegir entre una pérgola bioclimática, una pérgola bioclimática retráctil, una pérgola panelada, que también las hay con opción de apertura mediante mando a distancia o una pérgola solar que además nos ayudarían a reducir el consumo de energía eléctrica en nuestro hogar.
Algunos estaréis pensando que las pérgolas solares son algo transparentes y que posiblemente no nos pudieran proteger mucho del sol, pero tengo que puntualizar que nuestras pérgolas solares tienen la opción de poder poner una lámina por la parte inferior para hacerlas opacas y que la luz no traspase a la estancia cubierta. -Hablaremos más detenidamente de nuestras pérgolas solares en otra ocasión-.
Si estáis pensando en una pérgola para cubrir vuestra plaza de parking, lo más adecuado sería la pérgola panelada, ya que son totalmente estancas, con estructura que recoge el agua de lluvia y evacuan por los postes de sujeción o las pérgolas solares para los coches eléctricos, ya que se podría utilizar como punto de recarga para vuestro vehículo, con un adaptador para dicho uso.
Por último, si queréis instalar una pérgola para un local comercial, sin lugar a duda la pérgola bioclimática, la bioclimática retráctil o la panelada retráctil sería la mejor opción, ya que podréis dar a vuestros clientes más opciones de elegir el sitio dónde sentarse, soleado o sombreado. De todas las alternativas para este objetivo en mi opinión sería la bioclimática, ya que si tienes más de un módulo o panel de pérgola, puedes tener una zona sombreada y otra soleada al mismo tiempo simplemente rotando las lamas de forma independiente en cada módulo o panel. Para esta ocasión un sensor de lluvia también sería muy interesante, ya que las lamas se cerrarían automáticamente en caso de que lloviera, protegiendo vuestra terraza y a vuestros clientes.
